Why is an iconic Rauschenberg worth nothing, and how much will a Bellini owned by the Detroit Institute of Arts bring if auctioned? Why did many Chelsea art galleries not recoup the value of art lost to Hurricane Sandy? Explore these and other questions in the increasingly complex and essential world of fine art valuation at a panel discussion co-sponsored by Northern California ArtTable and the San Francisco Art Institute on Wednesday, April 30 from 5:30-9:00 pm. Four expert and highly acclaimed panelists will demystify art appraising today and discuss its impacts for collectors, museums, artists and auction houses. Topics will include insurance estimates, estate planning, artists’ estates, taxes, IRS audits and conflicts of interest. Audience questions and discussion will follow.
Schedule includes tour of current exhibition, "Wrong's What I Do Best," at the San Francisco Art Institute from 5:30 - 6:30; appraisal panel and audience discussion from 6:30 - 8:00; and dinner reception in the San Francisco Art Institute Café from 8:00 - 9:00.
Date & time: Wednesday, April 30th, 2014, 5:30 - 9:00 PM.
Price: $25 for ArtTable members; $35 for non-members. Register online or pay at the door.
