Anat Cohen - clarinet & saxophone
Gilad Hekselman - guitar
Joe Martin - bass
Joe Dyson - drums
Night three of clarinet virtuoso Anat Cohen's week focuses on her longstanding quartet featuring guitarist Gilad Hekselman and bassist Joe Martin -- an as-yet unrecorded group whose chemistry has been cemented for over a decade of performances. They are joined on this date by drummer Joe Dyson.
Like Cohen, Hekselman hails from the creative cauldron that is the Israeli jazz scene. He is a remarkable guitarist who has recorded and performed with a host of established jazz veterans including Chris Potter, John Scofield, Esperanza Spalding, Gretchen Parlato, Tigran Hamasyan, Aaron Parks, and Jeff "Tain" Watts. He won the 2005 Gibson Montreaux International Guitar Competition and has released 10 masterful recordings including his 2022 Edition Records release Far Star.
Martin is among the most visible and in-demand bassists on the New York scene, known widely for his work with saxophonist Mark Turner and Hekselman, who employed the bassist on five of his albums as a leader. He's released three albums for the Fresh Sound New Talent, Sunnyside, and Anzic labels and lent his masterful playing to projects by Chris Potter, Jane Monheit, Kurt Rosenwinkel, and Anat Cohen.
