Event :: An Evening with Erik Spiekermann :: Preservation through Production :: Hacking Gutenberg
Date :: Friday, February 22, 2019
Time :: 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM
Location :: San Francisco Center for the Book, 375 Rhode Island Street, San Francisco, CA
Tickets :: Admission is Free!
Join us for an evening lecture with world reknowned designer, letterpress printer, and bicycle enthusiast Erik Spiekermann.
At p98a.berlin, we develop new production methods (laser plate maker, electronic layouts, new distribution channels) in order to bring historical printing presses and other related machinery from the analog into the digital age. We call it post-digital printing.

Digital pre-press enables us to make productive use of the old equipment which connects us with our industrial and cultural heritage. Apart from the hardware, we need to maintain expert knowledge and professions otherwise threatened by extinction. Quite a few of the old machines and processes are still around; they work mechanically and will probably survive all of us, but they cannot easily be used economically. This is where we come in at our workshops in Berlin.
