An Audacious Venture: The Herbert Fleishhacker Swimming Pool
Tuesday, July 9 - 7:30pm
Old Mint 5th & Mission
The Herbert Fleishhacker Municipal Swimming Pool was a monumental and unique natatorium, conceived of and built at a time when San Franciscans thought big and acted upon grand ideas. Using historical photographs, many from private collections, Mike Phipps will present the history of the pool from its origins in the 1920s to its closing in 1971 when deferred maintenance, civic indifference and budgetary concerns spelled doom for the magnificent bathhouse and pool.
