Amy Seiwert's Imagery's SKETCH FILMS : Red Thread

SEE EVENT DETAILS
October 1, 6:30-7:30 pm Pacific time

Amy Seiwert's Imagery, a contemporary ballet company celebrates its tenth anniversary of the SKETCH series, with a dance film project, SKETCH FILMS : Red Thread, October - November 2020.

Featuring world premieres by SKETCH alumni including: Artistic Director Amy Seiwert, Artistic Fellow Ben Needham-Wood, Chicago based choreographer Stephanie Martinez, and NYC-based choreographer Jennifer Archibald. Both Martinez and Archibald are winners of the Joffrey Ballet's "Winning Works: Choreographers of Color" commissions. The first of the four films, "Crack the Dark" by Amy Seiwert will be released on October 1. The three remaining films will be screened on: October 16, 5 pm (Jennifer Archibald), November 5, 6:30 pm (Stephanie Martinez), and November 20, 5 pm (Ben Needham-Wood).

Seiwert's Crack the Dark is a collaboration with Academy Award-nominated documentary filmmakers Kristine Samuelson and John Haptas, and inspired by Sacramento chef Patrick Mulvaney. Mulvaney, a leader in Sacramento's Farm to Fork scene and pioneer in mental health advocacy for the hospitality industry, found a way to continue serving his community after being forced by the pandemic to close his restaurant. Seiwert was drawn to the parallels between what is happening in Mulvaney's field and her own.

Red Thread's original scores will be composed by Kishi Bashi and Emily Hope Price. Dancers include Imagery alumni: Joseph A. Hernandez (ODC Dance & Kate Weare Company), Kelsey McFalls (Company C, Dance Theatre of SF), Weston Krukow (Smuin Ballet, An American in Paris), and James Gilmer, now a member of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.

No Charge.

Presented by Amy Seiwert's Imagery.
