Yerba Buena Gardens Festival presents Ambrose Akinmusire for the West Coast premiere of his new work, Honey From A Winter's Stone.
Trumpeter Akinmusire is an East Bay-native and the current Artistic Director of the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz Performance. His Honey From A Winter's Stone is a synthesis of hip-hop, chamber jazz, and new music and features a string quartet, DC-based rapper/producer/singer Kokayi, longtime Akinmusire bandmates Sam Harris on piano and keyboards, and fellow Berkeley High School alum Justin Brown on drums.
