Altered Elegance, a transformation from the normality of appearance to the acute.
Emily Kontelis is a Bay Area local artist whose first exposure to art was seeing it on her parent’s skin. Growing up in a household where tattoos and piercings were normalized, she wanted to learn more about body modification. In the traditional sense, body modification is deeply rooted in a number of different cultures and usually surrounded in ritual. In today's standards, it's a way of expression. Yet, the practice of human suspension holds ritual and deep meaning to the people participating.
Altered Elegance, showcases the individuals in the body mod and suspension community who, reflects the lengths that people will go to find happiness in the way they look regardless of social norms.
Pieces will be of various sizes and affordability.
Food and Drinks provided. Donation based.
