Alonzo King LINES Ballet with Kronos Quartet

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Alonzo King LINES Ballet with Kronos Quartet
Fall Season 2018

Celebrate LINES Ballet’s 35th Anniversary Season as we look both forward and back — from a world premiere collaboration with San Francisco’s Kronos Quartet to a revival of our 2005 Baroque classic and audience favorite, Handel. The two works will showcase the breadth and growth of Alonzo King’s choreographic process, artistic experience and neoclassical form over the last 13 years.

Like LINES Ballet, Kronos Quartet brings a bold sense of exploration and new life to their artistry. As one of the world’s most celebrated and influential music ensembles, Kronos has performed thousands of concerts worldwide, releasing over 60 recordings, and commissioning over 950 string quartet works and arrangements. Musicians David Harrington (violin), John Sherba (violin), Hank Dutt (viola) and Sunny Yang (cello) explore the string quartet as an ever-changing conversation. Masters of musical communication, they listen to and anticipate each other’s next move, making for art that is truly alive.

In collaboration with LINES Ballet, Kronos will perform selections from their open access education initiative Fifty for the Future: The Kronos Learning Repertoire – an unprecedented legacy project working to commission and freely distribute a total of 50 original string quartet compositions by 25 women and 25 men from around the world.

Don’t miss this adventurous live music and dance experience — one that dares to push artistic boundaries, opening the beauty of string quartets and ballet to everyone!
