I haven't seen a band name this emo since I wore my sister's studded belts (please don't look for my old MySpace), but surprisingly enough, San Francisco's Alone in the Universe are only a smidge on the emo side. Judging by their two released singles, they mix a lot of synth-pop and chiptune with a bit of pop punk (which, circa 2008, finally ate whatever was left of emo), so expect bright Nintendo grooves along with some hard-rocking, strident sincerity. This show marks their first LP release, and they'll be playing along with Mitchell Lujan, Lucid Optics and The Real Craig White. (Stephen Layton)
