Live Performance Series Alone & Together Showcases
Lauded Songwriters Collaborating in Rare Artists-In-The-Round for
Two-Night-Only Engagement at Sweetwater Music Hall and Starline Social Club

In its sixth incarnation of the series, Alone & Together brings lauded contemporary songwriters who are recording for indie labels such as Merge Records and Saddle Creek together for rare two-night artists-in-the-round concerts at Sweetwater Music Hall (Mill Valley) and Starline Social Club (Oakland) on Friday, February 7 and Saturday, February 8, 2020. Buzzy indie-folk artists MC Taylor (Merge Records), Sam Evian (Saddle Creek), and Sam Cohen (30th Century Records) will play one another's classic songs as well as perform their own tracks, choice covers, and epic jams. The freewheeling compositional sojourn into the majestic unknown of infinite possibilities will highlight the ingenious abilities of these foremost artists while being backed by stalwart musicians Stuart Bogie (Arcade Fire), Brian Betancourt (Merge Records), and Andrew Barr (The Barr Brothers).

Alone & Together -- Featured Artists
MC Taylor is the creative force of Hiss Golden Messenger. Based out of North Carolina, his latest album Terms of Surrender (Merge Records) is a modern day American masterpiece. MC Taylor recently wowed the masses at San Francisco's Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. Critics at Pitchfork, Consequence of Sound, KCRW, and CBS News have hailed MC's music.

Sam Cohen, the multi-talented Brooklyn-based musician and producer, released his first solo album, Cool It, in 2016. As the man behind the psychedelic-rock band Yellowbirds, Cohen released The Color in 2011 and Songs from the Vanished Frontier in 2013. Most recently, he has produced Kevin Morby's album, Singing Saw; Benjamin Booker's sophomore release, Witness; Curtis Harding's, Face Your Fear; and Resistance Radio: The Man in the High Castle Album (co-produced with Danger Mouse), which is a companion piece to the eponymous Amazon series featuring Beck, Norah Jones, Karen O, Sharon Van Etten, Michael Kiwanuka, and many more.

Sam Evian is a Woodstock, New York-based songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. You, Forever, Sam's second record for Saddle Creek, is a foray into a more soul-baring sensibility. Released in summer 2018, the album is a beautiful collection that glows with an intense, slow burn. It was touted by Pitchfork as a collection of songs that are "gentle and sweet but avoid the most saccharine tendencies of soft rock." Last fall, Sam released a version of the You, Forever track "Next to You" with vocals by Blonde Redhead's Kazu Makino. It lit up playlists. Paste magazine said, "The track is a beautiful little diamond of Sunday morning guitars and Marvin Gaye-style bass grooves."

Stuart Bogie is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, and music producer. Beyond his composing, Stuart has been a touring member of Arcade Fire, a regular with Joe Russo's Almost Dead and was an integral member of Antibalas. He has recorded or performed with a veritable "Who's Who" of popular music, including Phish, Wu Tang Clan, The Roots, Massive Attack, TV on The Radio, and others.

Brian Betancourt is a New York-based bassist/guitarist and a founding member of the band Hospitality (Merge Records). He frequently performs and records with various musical projects, including Sam Evian, Sam Cohen, Mary Timony and Helium, Luke Temple and Here We Go Magic, Eleanor Friedberger, and others.

Andrew Barr is a founding member of the experimental rock band The Slip (1995-2007) and he currently drums in, co-writes and produces music in the critically acclaimed group The Barr Brothers along with his brother Brad Barr. The Barr Brothers have recorded three full-length albums; have appeared twice on The Late Show with David Letterman; been regular guests on BBC, CBC, and NPR; have headlined the Montreal Jazz Festival; have been nominated for three Juno Awards; and have performed throughout the world on venerable stages.

While MC Taylor and Sam Evian will perform with Alone & Together for the first time, the 2020 edition will feature the third appearance by Sam Cohen. Artists that have collaborated with Alone & Together, include Kevin Morby, Joe Russo, Elvis Perkins, Josh Kaufman, Ryan Miller (Guster), John Roderick, Matthew Caws (Nada Surf), and The Parkington Sisters.
