Join us for the opening reception with the artist on January 13, 2024, from 6-9 p.m. There will be drinks and snacks and a chance to look at more than 25 Paintings that Gouliard made in his studio in Half Moon Bay, CA in 2023. The paintings are characterized by abstract imagery with dynamic and expressive gestural brushwork balancing between the chaotic and controlled and feature a wide range of color palettes.
Gouliard was inspired by a broad range of historical sources, maps, diagrams, pinball machines, and calligraphy. As a process-oriented abstract painter, he embraces a systematic exploration of chaos and control. His work harmonizes an array of disparate themes: esoteric expressions of cloud chambers, the didactic lines of weather maps, cartography's precise geometry, the random behavior of metal balls inside pinball machines, the unseen yet potent influences that shape our universe, and cartoon explosions.
