The ALEXANDER STRING QUARTET has performed in the major music capitals of five continents, securing its standing among the world's premier ensembles. Widely admired for its interpretations of Beethoven, Mozart, and Shostakovich, the quartet's recordings of the Beethoven, Bartok, and Shostakovich cycles have won international critical acclaim. Since 1989, the Alexander String Quartet has been Ensemble in Residence in the College of Liberal and Creative Arts at San Francisco State University.
Recently named Ensemble-in-Residence by the San Francisco Conservatory of Music through the 2019-2020 season, the TELEGRAPH QUARTET has been described by the San Francisco Chronicle as "...an incredibly valuable addition to the cultural landscape" and "powerfully adept... with a combination of brilliance and subtlety." Founded in 2013, the Quartet is the recipient of some of the chamber music world's highest honors. Most recently, the Quartet was the winner of the 2016 Walter W. Naumburg Chamber Music Award and the Grand Prize at the 2014 Fischoff Chamber Music Competition.
