Alex Hand Band / Three For Silver: Balkan Folk-Jazz & Apocalyptic Folk Noir

SEE EVENT DETAILS
A staple in the Bay Area Balkan and gypsy swing scenes in recent years, Alex Hand’s current project explores the common ground of influence between western art music and jazz with folk music of Eastern Europe. The repertoire features uptempo and high-energy dance tunes from Bulgaria and Romania with a progressive edge.
Sharing the night is post-folk/rock band Three For Silver, who is currently on tour supporting the newest album, The Way We Burn, released September 2017 on Foggy Night Records. The album was recorded outside of traditional studios in an attempt to capture the music out in the wild, in the nooks and crannies where it’s most likely to breed and grow. Recorded from a dank basement to a cloud-capped stone observatory, from a silent river home to an empty piano warehouse, The Way We Burn marks a new generation in album production and a band of people that is more than just one sound or one style.   FEATURING: Alex Hand Band Lewis Patzner – cello Isaac Schwartz – drums Alex Hand – guitar
Three For Silver Lucas Warford – vocals, resonator bass, banjo bass, contrabasin Willo Sertain – vocals, accordion Greg Allison – vocals, violin, mandolin   ABOUT THE ARTISTS: Alex Hand graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2011 with a degree in jazz guitar performance. He studied Balkan folk music in Bulgaria in 2015 and has been playing and teaching in the San Francisco area for four years.   Three For Silver is post-collapse, post-folk, post-everything. A freewheeling collective of folk musicians in which the only rule is to survive and perform, the band is as likely to be found in a grand theater performing for foreign dignitaries as busking on your street corner for spare change. Three For Silver has hit the road non-stop since its formation in 2013, playing over 200 shows a year, and has gained an international following with an unmistakable evolution of roots music.
