Airbnb Hosts San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus

Airbnb’s LGBTQ Employee Group, AirPride, is excited to host the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus for a short performance and conversation at our San Francisco office on June 7th, 2017. Doors will open at 3:30 and the event will begin promptly at 4pm and will be followed by a reception. Late arrivals will not be admitted.
Airbnb’s Director of Social Good, Kim Rubey, will host SFGMC’s Executive Director, Chris Verdugo and Artistic Director & Conductor, Timothy Seelig in a conversation focusing on how the SFGMC brings their mission of creating extraordinary musical experiences that inspire community, activism, and compassion to life. We will also learn about their upcoming 40th Anniversary Lavender Pen Tour, a tour of southern states that have major discriminatory laws aimed at the LGBTQ+ community.

Dr. Timothy Seelig, Artistic Director & Conductor, SFGMC
Dr. Timothy Seelig is a conductor, singer, teacher and motivational speaker. In addition to Artistic Director of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus, he continues a busy guest-conducting schedule throughout the U.S. and across the globe. He is Conductor Emeritus of the Turtle Creek Chorale, which he conducted for 20 years, co-founded The Women’s Chorus of Dallas and taught on the faculty at Southern Methodist University for 14 years.

Chris Verdugo, Executive Director, SFGMC
Chris Verdugo joined SFGMC as the new Executive Director on Monday, September 12, 2016. Most recently, Verdugo served as the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles. Before working with GMCLA, Verdugo founded his own production company, creating and producing major fundraising events and galas in Los Angeles for leading LGBT organizations, including the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), GLAAD (formerly the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation), GMCLA and Beinestar.

Kim Rubey, Director of Social Good, Airbnb
Kim Rubey is the global head of social impact and philanthropy at Airbnb, where she leads the company's work to utilize the power of the Airbnb community and the resources of the company to positively impact communities around the world. In this role, Rubey oversees all of Airbnb's social impact initiatives including its disaster response program, major non-profit partnerships, charitable contributions, and volunteer and service oriented programming, and product integrations. 
Rubey joined Airbnb in 2011 as the global head of communications and led strategic planning for major company initiatives such as Airbnb’s launch in Cuba. For over 20 years, Rubey has driven communications strategies for leading technology companies, political campaigns, and government agencies. Prior to joining Airbnb, Rubey held senior communications roles at Yahoo! and eBay; in 2004 she served as the communications director for the vice presidential nominee for the Kerry-Edwards campaign after working on several Democratic campaigns. Rubey lives in San Francisco, California and serves on the board of directors for StoryCorps and the advisory board for Georgetown University’s Institute of Politics and Public Service.
