Adam Agee & Jon Sousa are on tour to celebrate the release of their second duo album, Ceol na gCarad, which is Irish for “Music of Friendship.” Featuring tunes gathered over the many years of travel in Ireland, their stage performance is characterized by an uncanny musical intimacy, allowing for the truest expression of the music to flow through them and through the hearts of all who are present. Adrianna Ciccone and Colin Cotter also team up as a duo for a full evening of fiddle/guitar explorations. The Colorado-based duo has put down musical roots in County Clare, where the two lived together and now make frequent visits. Their connection to their instruments and the transcendent energy in their music captivate and uplift audiences of all ages. (Photo by Nate Shepard)
Only a few young Canadian fiddlers today can show off the breadth and range of North American fiddling like Adrianna Ciccone. With a “distinctive stamp and swing that is both rooted and infectious,” she crosses back and forth across the continent with ease. Ciccone showcases Cape Breton reels, crooked French-Canadian brandys, the rollicking rhythms of Ottawa Valley step-dancing tunes, and way down to Southern Appalachian string band tunes, all while incorporating Irish and Métis influences. A graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, her debut album, The Back of Winter, produced by Bruce Molsky, won Instrumental Solo Artist of the Year at the 2015 Canadian Folk Music Awards.
Colin Cotter picked up the fiddle at the age of four, beginning a life-long journey building upon several generations of his family’s intimate relationship with traditional Finnish music. Over time, musical influences from Scotland, Quebec, New York City, and West Africa crept in, rendering his distinct, folky sound. A self-taught guitarist, Cotter has developed an accompaniment style that, in tandem with his hard-hitting, poignant songwriting, bridges the gaps between American and Celtic folk music and rock.
