Act of Making

Act of Making is a group exhibition featuring contemporary artists whose practices are driven by experimentation, material investigation, and making as both method and meaning. Opening on August 29, 2026, with an Artist Reception from 5 to 7 pm, the exhibition will remain on view through October 10.

At the heart of the exhibition is the belief that the act of creation remains present in the finished work. Layers accumulate, gestures evolve, and surfaces record the history of their making. The resulting works make visible the physical and intellectual labor of making, where process becomes an essential part of the artwork's meaning.

The emphasis on making has shaped some of the most significant artistic movements of the past century. From the gestural innovations of Abstract Expressionism to later explorations of materiality and process, artists have recognized that the act of creation can be as meaningful as the finished work. The artists in Act of Making continue this conversation through practices that expand the expressive possibilities of painting, sculpture, and mixed media.

Act of Making features gallery artists Petra Schott, Myles Bennett, Miquel Gelabert, Ellen Richman, Fernando Reyes, and Gustavo Ramos Rivera, alongside guest artists.
