This class is for absolute beginners with no experience with dance, social dance, or tango. No need to come with a partner, and if you do, we recommend that you rotate partners after every song.
We'll learn basic weight shifts, walking (this will be difficult), and how to listen to your partner (the most important thing in communication).
You must come with:
- deodorized armpits
- shoes that slide/slip on the floor (socks, leather, hard rubber all work)
- an openness to meeting new people
- knowledge that you can say "no" or opt out at any time and understanding for others who opt out
- the mentality that you can always do something to make your partners feel better
Kimberly Han has been teaching tango since 2009, and has taught/performed in the USA, Canada, Taiwan, China, Italy, London, and Edinburg as well as at festivals including the Beijing International Tango Festival and TangoLive Vancouver. As a self-proclaimed tango gypsy, tango has led her to be nomadic around the world for 3 years before landing in San Francisco and then diving into working in Tech/Events. She has hosted hundreds of events at Make School but this is her first tango class in San Francisco in 5 years!
Tim has liked hugging strangers and listening to music for as long as he can remember, but it was tango that finally allowed him to do both at the same time in a socially acceptable way. His tango journey has been a fast-paced tour de force, running the gamut from casual practicas in the living rooms of his friends to private lessons in the living rooms of his teachers. So if you like hugging strangers, listening to music, or being socially acceptable, let Tim be your tango spirit guide.
