A Tribute to Joe Louis Walker by Paul Steward

at Biscuits & Blues (6:30 PM & 9:00 PM)
EARLY SHOW · 6:30 PM · DOORS 5:15 PM
LATE SHOW · 9:00 PM · DOORS 8:30 PM
$25+ Admission

Joe Louis Walker was born in San Francisco on Christmas Day 1949 with the city's blues in his blood. He roomed for years with Mike Bloomfield, shared early stages with John Lee Hooker, Willie Dixon, and Charlie Musselwhite, and after a gospel run with the Spiritual Corinthians came roaring back with 1986's Cold Is the Night. He traded verses with B.B. King on Blues Summit, a Grammy winner, and was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame before his death in April 2025.

Carrying that flame is Paul Steward, the Santa Rosa guitarist and soul singer who fronted the band Twice As Good for more than twenty years and won both a Native American Music Award and a West Coast Blues Hall of Fame Award. He channels his Elem Pomo roots and a lifetime of Bay Area stages into every set, and he now teaches American Indian studies at the same San Francisco State that once schooled Walker. Tonight he plugs in to play the songs of the late blues legend the way they were meant to be heard: loud, live, and full of soul.
