This week-long intensive will take the dérive—or unplanned journey—as our starting point for exploring our urban landscape in a nonlinear fashion. This course will combine readings, lectures, walks, special site and archive visits, and experimental outdoor constructions and deconstructions to defy the logical route. By participating in this class, you will interact with your surroundings, it's history, and communities in order to expand your art practice and look at “process†and one’s relation to site in a new light. Students will dedicate the week to both intensive class time and a studio practice that will culminate in a site specific work, performance, or presentation.
Please bring a bag lunch with you, and wear comfortable clothes appropriate for walking outside.

Annie Albagli is a video and sound based installation artist whose work delves into personal narratives drawn from specific landscapes and communities. She has held residencies in the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East, including, most recently at, Djerassi, This Will Take Time, and A-Z West. Recent commissions include: a site specific performance and live stream for the exhibition InLight, Bridging the Light a site specific installation for the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and This is My Love Letter to You... an interactive installation at the Art Museum of the Americas in Washington D.C. She holds an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and a BFA from Boston University.

SFAI is located in a residential neighborhood, and free two-hour parking is available on all of the streets immediately surrounding the school. The two-hour restriction cuts off at 9 pm, so evening Public Education students do not need to move their car, unless you arrive prior to 7 pm.SFAI is easily accessible via public transportation, with Muni bus lines #30 Stockton, and #47 Van Ness located within a few blocks of campus.I have a question that isn't on this list.
