A Brown Kitchen: A Talk with Nik Sharma

SEE EVENT DETAILS
This event is part of The Haresh & Joan Shah Lecture & Peformance Series.
Writer, photographer, cook—Nik Sharma wears many hats, but his passion is centered on food. His love of food can be traced back to his memories of watching his parents and grandmother preparing dishes with great enthusiasm and love.
Nik Sharma grew up in a bicultural household where he could absorb and enjoy the difference influences not only in terms of what his family ate, but also cultural context. His North Indian father's culinary habits were very different from those of his mother, who hailed from Goa (a former Portuguese colony on the West Coast of India). It was through food that these cultures blended.
Through his weekly column in the San Francisco Chronicle, Nik shares recipes alongside the stories of his childhood—illuminating the dishes in a new way and bringing the context of his culture to each recipe. His first cookbook, Season, is filled with recipes that represent his experiences growing up in India and in the United States.
Join Nik as he shares the stories and recipes that have shaped his life and work.
