About Non Plus Temps' Desire Choir
Andy Human and Sam Lefebvre began writing and recording Desire Choir in 2021. They biked to a West Oakland rehearsal space and tracked drums and bass to an old tape machine. It was an accretive process, initially disoriented from live performance. Influenced by a "communist interpretation of collective music" and the variable post-punk and dub combinations of the On-U Sound label, as they write in a pamphlet companion to the album, Non Plus Temps emerged as more singers and players sought affinity amid the pandemic-era social isolation and unrest.
Non Plus Temps' DESIRE CHOIR is a spellbinding fusion of psych, post-punk, and dub. Full of sparkling synth, hypnotic horns, and grinding guitar, this Oakland group has created something magnificent. Nominated by Floyd.
About the Record of the Month Club
Every month, we nominate a bookseller-endorsed LP for Record of the Month and promote the album, band, and label throughout the course of the month. We put heavy emphasis on local and/or off-the-beaten track artists and labels with the intention of bringing support and attention to our community's vibrant creative landscape.
