The New York City band 79.5 was started in 2010 by singer-songwriter Kate Mattison. Named after an imaginary radio station, 79.5's sound may be hard to break down, as it can sound like 70's underground disco one minute, and sugary sweet girl pop the next. It's sometimes an acid jazz freakout, oftentimes psychedelic and romantic, yet the impression is always distinctively 79.5.
With only a self released 12" in circulation, 79.5 was written up in The New Yorker twice based upon the eminence of their live sets alone, drawing comparisons to ESG, The Jones Girls, and Donna Summer. Early 2019 saw the addition of singer and rapper Lola Adanna (Naomi Shelton & The Gospel Queens) to the lineup, and became a bright new chapter for founding member Mattison and longtime 79.5 saxophonist and flautist, Izaak Mills. The current lineup also includes Andrew Raposo (Midnight Magic, Hess is More) on Bass and Caito Sanchez (Charles Bradley, Lee Fields) on drums. 79.5's sophomore album is due out Spring 2023, with Aaron Frazer (Durand Jones & The Indications) and Mattison as co-producers on the project.
Irresistibly danceable, lovetempo is the new project from Brooklyn-based musician, producer, and singer Mattie Safer (The Rapture, Poolside). Featuring Safer's soft, sultry vocals and sophisti-pop sensibilities over a hypnotic blend of jazz-funk, disco, latin percussion, and house music, lovetempo's unique brand of lonelyhearts disco is guaranteed to move you, body and soul. Their debut track, "Turnaround" was released in December as part of influential dance juggernaut Razor-N-Tape's 'Family Affair Vol. 2' compilation, with their eponymous debut to follow in the spring.

Safer began working on lovetempo while on a European tour with Poolside in early 2020. Inspired by a broken heart and a desire to dance the pain away, Safer began writing songs, programming beats, and recording bass, synth & vocal parts in hotel rooms and stolen moments between soundchecks and shows. Returning home just days before the pandemic lockdown, Safer continued refining lovetempo's sound from the solitude of his Brooklyn bedroom, bringing in remote collaborators: keyboardist Morgan Wiley (Adi Oasis, Midnight Magic), percussionists Brijean Murphy (Brijean, Poolside) and Alberto Lopez (Ruben Bladés, LCD Soundsystem), vocalists Mel Chambers + Meka Brown, co-producer/saxophonist Grant Zubritsky (Chet Faker, Mitski), and mixer Abe Seiferth (Nation Of Language, Guerilla Toss).
