San Francisco-based photographer Ari Salomon presents a solo exhibition of his "6 Feet Apart" series at Birdhouse Gallery in the Sunset neighborhood. This thought-provoking collection draws from Salomon's global archive of images capturing pandemic-era markings that guided social distancing.
The exhibition includes a diverse range of installations: concrete sculptures, murals, framed and unframed photographs, site-specific works on windows and floors, and publications. Together, these elements explore themes of transformation, the fragility of health, the rigorous yet uncertain nature of scientific inquiry, and the overwhelming experience of emotional panic.
Salomon's "6 Feet Apart" series delves into the collective and personal responses to upheaval and uncertainty. Through visually compelling abstractions, the work reflects the anxiety of its time while provoking reflection on the symbols that have shifted from urgent to mundane.
