A cocktail or two at our no-host bar, a dazzling sunset over the Bay - and some of the best jazz around. Bobbe Norris and Jackie Ryan with The Larry Dunlap Trio.
Bobbe Norris and Jackie Ryan are two of the premier vocalists in the U.S., known throughout the world for their seductive and swinging renditions of great songs, both well-known and obscure. While their styles are distinct, they share influences of jazz, The Great American Songbook, and a deep love for Brazilian music. Their respective histories in the music world are distinguished by stunning accolades and appearances throughout the world and at major festivals and jazz clubs. Each is an admirer of the other and each has a deep understanding of their jazz vocal heritage.
Our concert will be an early evening of standards with cool jazz or Latin approach along with some surprises. This concert will long be remembered by those lucky enough to be in the audience; a rare opportunity to hear these two masters on the same stage.
Backing Bobbe and Jackie will be The Larry Dunlap Trio, comprised of three A-list musicians who have accompanied each of them over the years. Bobbe's husband, pianist Larry Dunlap fronts the trio which also includes Dan Feiszli on bass and David Rokeach on drums. Larry Dunlap has been praised as a "remarkable and versatile accompanist" and "one of the best jazz pianists around - anywhere" by the San Francisco Examiner and has been the pianist for the British diva, Cleo Laine, since 1983.
Bobbe Norris' voice has been described as "wide of range yet intimate in style and delivery with a low lush vibrato warmer than an open hearth on a winter night" by Rex Reed of GQ Magazine
According to Jazz Times magazine's veteran critic, Christopher Loudon, Jackie "is one of the outstanding jazz vocalists of her generation and quite possibly, of all time. She is the thoroughbred vocal equivalent of the Triple Crown, rivaling the dexterous sass of Sarah Vaughan, the instinctive smarts of Carmen McRae and the scintillating verve of Diana Krall."
Let's not forget the other star of the show. The Venue! The Golden Gate Yacht Club achieved worldwide fame with the partnership between Larry Ellison of Oracle and the Club to win the America's Cup in 2010.
Join us for an afternoon of outstanding music, great drinks and a dazzling sunset on the bay!
