SEE EVENT DETAILS
at San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park (see times)
Experience the driving rhythms of chanteys and the beauty of seafaring songs from the wooden decks of the historic 1886 sailing ship Balclutha. Join the park in its 31st year of presenting some of sea music’s outstanding performers.

Saturday, August 17. GEOFF KAUFMAN

For the past 30 years, Geoff Kaufman has been leading audiences to find truth, humor and beauty in folk music. Accompanying himself on concertina and guitar, Geoff has performed sea music throughout the U.S. and Europe at festivals and concerts. At the core of his performance is his rich tenor voice and an exuberant love of singing. Geoff likes to stress the “live’ in live performance, promoting participation, be it by voice, heart or mind.

Saturday, September 21. aboard Balclutha SPITZER & MAREVA

Spitzer and Mareva are a fierce vocal duo with a deep repertoire of sea chanteys and ballads of the British Isles. Their collaboration has brought them to festivals and stages around the country. As members of Chicago’s folk music collective Old Lazarus Harp, they provide regular community music and dance events around the city.

Saturday, October 26.  aboard Balclutha CHRIS MADEN

Chris Maden, accompanying himself on concertina, hails from Marlborough, Massachusetts. Chris sings sea chanteys, old ballads, new ballads and drinking songs. He has been a working chanteyman at the Mystic Seaport Museum, and has performed at the Portsmouth, NH Maritime Folk Festival and at other venues on the East Coast.

Saturday, November 16. aboard Balclutha BRASS FARTHING

Brass Farthing is a 9-member a cappella group of stalwart lads brought together to sing, raise good cheer, and otherwise make merry in the company of good friends both old and new. They take their inspiration from many historical periods, performing historical, traditional and contemporary songs. They have performed at the park’s Festival of the Sea, at the NorCal Pirate Festival, the Freight and Salvage Coffeehouse, and the Dickens Christmas Fair.
