What to Expect at Lightning in a Bottle 2019

Lightning in a Bottle (LiB) is coming up this weekend for a four-day celebration at a new outdoor venue.

Annually, LiB curates a forward-thinking collection of live musicians performing; spanning techno, house, and other electronic styles. Beyond live music, the festival offers a variety of art installations, education programs, a market featuring independent fashion designers, yoga classes, and even fine dining experiences.

The organizers of LiB 2019 previously announced that the lineup would be headlined by Disclosure, Flying Lotus, and Santigold, and that they’d be moving to a greener, more expansive venue, with a lake in Buena Vista Aquatic Recreational Area.

So, to give a preview this year’s festival, we asked six artists on performing this year to share their perspectives on the event, an essential packing list, and their approach to the weekend.

How would you describe Lightning in a Bottle?

It’s a convergence of creativity. So many artists and producers come together to birth this experience for people to enjoy for such a limited amount of time. It’s really a labor of love, like a family.

What are your goals for the weekend?

I get in early Sunday morning so I’m going to see and do as much as I can, while I can. Proud to start the party at the Woogie but gotta support my Favela fam too!

What are the top three essentials on your packing list?

A onesie, some SPF and a USB stick.

Which other LiB performers will you be sure to watch?

Since Sunday is the day I’m looking forward to Damian Lazarus, Jan Blomqvist, Benjamin K and definitely Rampue. But plans are hard at festivals so I’m sure I’ll be bouncin’ around.

How would you describe Lightning in a Bottle?

Well, our first experience was way too short. We only came in for a night. We were kicking ourselves when we had to leave. Made sure we’re around for the entire weekend this time.

What are your goals for the weekend?

We want to crush both our sets. That’s the biggest goal. Really looking forward to some downtime with the squad too.

What are the top three essentials on your packing list?

A hat, sunglasses, and shorts. That’s all I really need.

Which other LIB performers will you be sure to watch?

I’m excited to see Santigold and Flying Lotus for sure. But honestly, I usually just roll around from stage to stage and am always happy when I walk into something I wasn’t expecting.

Actually, this is my first LIB. I’ve done Wookie Weekender, and Woogie Stage at Coachella. I really love the vibe of community that runs through this festival. This will be a gathering of epic proportions!

What are your goals for the weekend?

To be completely immersed in positive vibes, and stupendous music! Also to spend quality time with good friends and make a ton of new ones…

What are the top three essentials on your packing list?

Vibes, love, and music.

Which other LiB performers will you be sure to watch?

Dj Koze, Damian Lazarus, Shiba San, Holmar, Bedouin, Recondite, etc. Also great local talent like Marques Wyatt, Anton Tumas, Patricio Motto, Ben Annand, Big C, Maximus C, G-Dubbs… Plus getting turned on to a ton of other artists that I may not be aware of!

How would you describe Lightning in a Bottle?

Lightning in a Bottle is my favorite music and arts festival in the whole world. It’s always been a dream of mine to play the Do LaB stages since I discovered it at Coachella 10+ years ago.

What are your goals for the weekend?

Play a great set and then relax and spend time with my friends and family that are making the trip out there.

What are the top three essentials on your packing list?

Reusable water bottle, a cot with a sleeping pad, and lots of sunscreen.

Which other LiB performers will you be sure to watch?

I’m most excited to see Flying Lotus, Luttrell, PRSN, and Kruangbin!

How would you describe Lightning in a Bottle?

This is our first time at the festival, but we’ve been told it’s absolutely magical with feel-good community vibes.

What are your goals for the weekend?

We want to play a great set, make some friends and get some sun.

What are the top three essentials on your packing list?

Sunscreen, water, and earplugs. Safety first!

Which other LiB performers will you be sure to watch?

Looking forward to Cautious Clay and Masego for sure!

How would you describe Lightning in a Bottle?

Lightning in a Bottle is the nexus of the universe in the month of May. Humans, aliens, and inter-dimensional beings alike come from all over the galaxy to bathe in the sun, swim in the crispy cool waters and bask in a veritable beat-opia.

What are your goals for the weekend?

Goals? No goals. I’ll be arriving on a golden wave of effortlessness.

What are the top three essentials on your packing list?

Gluten-free pancake mix, blueblockers, and my Kamasutra book.

Which other LiB performers will you be sure to watch?

When not on stage, you can find me in the treetops with my binoculars. I appreciate the performers, dancers and such but I’m more interested in the performance of the famed Black Bellied Whistling Duck native to Buena Vista Lake, CA. What can I say? I’m a bird guy. I can also see where the largest cuddle puddles are from way up there.
