Movie Nights on the Beach: Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk’s Free Outdoor Film Series Returns

If catching an old school movie favorite while at the beach sounds dreamy, it might be time for a quick trip down to Santa Cruz. Between June 20th and August 15th, the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is offering free movies on the beach every Wednesday night at 9pm (except July 4th). Just gather your friends, a blanket or low back chair and get ready to watch some of these blockbusters:

June 20 – The Lost Boys
June 27 – Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
July 11 – Legally Blonde
July 18 – Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
July 25 – Hairspray
Aug 1 – Jumanji
Aug 8 – Ghostbusters
Aug 15 – Raiders of the Lost Ark

During each movie’s 15 minute intermission indulge in some Boardwalk junk food favorites. For starters, get yourself some Kettlecorn, corn dogs (made from a secret family recipe), deep fried artichokes, or Marini’s famous saltwater taffy.

If you’ve never been to the Boardwalk, aside from these free movies, you’ll see that it’s also a seaside amusement park. If you like roller coasters, there’s the Giant Dipper. There are indoor arcades, a two-story miniature golf course, a laser tag arena, and a bowling center across the street. There are all-day, unlimited ride passes, or you can just buy one-off tickets.

And be sure to take a photo or two to share your experience here.

There are also plenty of places to stay nearby, and even some picturesque campgrounds at New Brighton State Beach in Capitola.
