Pop-Up Magazine Returns to Oakland with Thought-Provoking Lineup of Guests

Pop-Up Magazine, the hugely successful live show, is returning with its spring issue at Oakland’s Paramount Theater on Thursday, May 10th. Always measuring the nation’s pulse, the upcoming show will deliver Pop-Up Magazine’s potent cocktail of politically aware glances, humorist human interest vignettes, and artful performances.

The night will a variety of speakers and performances related to current events and pressing issues, including a photographer’s look at the condolence gifts sent in the aftermath of mass shootings; a food correspondent’s poignant analysis of Donald Trump’s favorite salad; a filmmaker’s discovery of the young children boxing in Thailand, and a true crime story which is very much on trend with the latest podcasts.

Among the performers and storytellers, the audience can expect journalists like John Jeremiah Sullivan, a contributing writer to the New York Times Magazine and Helen Rosner, food correspondent for the New Yorker, artist and author Leanne Shapton, actress Joy Bryant of Parenthood fame, Grammy-award winning musician Fantastic Negrito, and Lauren Greenfield, the filmmaker behind the deliciously wacky documentary Queen of Versailles, and the multimedia project Generation Wealth, which includes a book, an exhibition, and an upcoming documentary.
