Global Dance Festival MUTEK Makes U.S. Debut in San Francisco

MUTEK, the long-running international festival of electronic music and digital arts, announced the initial lineup for their first-ever U.S. event, happening right here in San Francisco later this spring.

The four-day multi-sensory event takes place across nine different venues across the city, including the San Francisco Mint, Mezzanine, The Midway, Bimbo’s 365 Club, Gray Area Grand Theatre, Herbst Theatre, The California Academy of Sciences, and Heron Arts.

MUTEK will showcase audiovisual works and performances, dance parties, outdoor live music events, sound design, art installations, panel discussions, and more. The music lineup features an eclectic mix of established artists, experimental acts, and unique collaborations, such as Tim Hecker and Lee Gamble, along with Bay Area artists like Christina Chatfield, Russell E.L. Butler, and Solar (who will play alongside C.L.A.W.S.).

See further below for the first wave of the lineup. Additional artists and locations will be announced in the next few weeks!

A limited number of early bird passports can be purchased now, which grants access to all MUTEK.SF programs. Once the early bird passports have sold out, Tier One passports will be available at an increased cost. Ticketing for individual events will begin several weeks prior to the festival.

The original MUTEK festival started back in 2000. The premier event is an annual five-day event in Montréal that takes place in late May and early June. MUTEK has expanded over the years to host international versions of its festival in big city locations like Mexico City, Tokyo, Barcelona, Dubai, and Buenos Aires. Graffiti teasers that read ‘MUTEK San Francisco’ started popping up in the Bay Area back in September 2017.
