June 28-30, 2018, 7pm - 10pm each day
Windrider Film Forum returns to Performing Arts Center at Menlo-Atherton this June for its 9th annual film forum, featuring three evenings of award-winning, independent films. Each night's program will be followed by a Q&A panel conversation with the filmmakers, producers, and stars of the films.
The forum opens on Thur., June 28 with SKID ROW MARATHON, a remarkable documentary that follows four runners as they rise from the mean streets of LA to run marathons around the world, fighting the pull of homelessness and addiction at every turn.
The Fri., June 29 program highlights the power of short films with three thought-provoking examples: FANNY PACK, a delightful comedy that asks: what happens when a young Indian-American girl, following her dreams is chased through an airport by her fanny pack-clad Indian father, who hopes she will follow his dreams?; THE DRIVER IS RED, A riveting account of the hunt by Israeli secret service for a notorious Nazi fugitive in the remote outskirts of Buenos Aires; and REFUGEE, which tells the story of Aicha Diop, a West African refugee who made the biggest sacrifice of all when she boarded a plane for the US in 2003; a remarkable story of a mother's love, and how the power of hope can propel us through insurmountable obstacles, even after losing everything.
The forum concludes on Sat., June 30 with INVENTING TOMORROW, which follows six passionate young scientists and innovators from India, Mexico, Indonesia and Hawaii as they tackle some daunting environmental issues facing humanity today. Each student is preparing original scientific research for the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). Meet these teenagers, with their own unique struggles, who are navigating the typical doubts and insecurities that mark adolescence as they prepare to leave home, some for the very first time, to attend this competition.
