SEE EVENT DETAILS
Join us for the 2018 Burning Man Theme Camp Symposium!A full day of programming, panels, break out sessions, knowledge sharing, and time to connect with our amazing community of camp leaders.

When

Saturday, March 24, 20188:30-9:30am - Arrival, Breakfast, Coffee & Morning Music Reception9:30am-5:00pm - Symposium programming, with break for lunch in the neighborhood5:00-7:00pm - Social fun at a nearby bar

Where
Option 1: In-person in San Francisco at The Grand Theater (registration required)

Option 2: Virtually from wherever you are! We will livestream the entire day, including one of the afternoon breakout sessions. Register and we'll email you the details for participating. Given our limited in-person capacity, this is a great way to get more folks in your camp engaged and informed. The Grand Theater is one and a half blocks from the 24th St Mission BART station and many other bus lines. There are many great restaurants in the area you can enjoy during the lunch break.

Who

Theme Camp, Village, and Camp in Village leaders and...A larger venue means for the first year ever, we’re thrilled to also invite Mutant Vehicle Support Camp leaders and Art Support Camp leaders to join this event!Registration is for returning camps. If you're a new 2018 camp interested in attending in-person, please email [email protected]. Anyone can join the livestream. - Given our expanded number of camps, we have a different way of inviting people this year. The first 75 camps to register may bring two camp representatives (150 people total). After those first 150 spots are gone, camps may bring one camp representative. - If we run out of seats, we have a waitlist you may join. As the date gets closer we'll check in so those who are no longer able to join us can open up their seat for someone on the waitlist.- If we have extra seats, we will open it back up for more camps to invite a second representative.
One of the big topics from our content survey was burnout and succession planning. Perhaps consider inviting someone from your camp to the Symposium who you'd like to see play a larger leadership role.

Programming

We did a survey of what content you wanted to see! Here's what we're going to be talking and learning about...

- Camp logistics (transportation, storage, shipping containers; water, power; camp layouts)- Leadership (frequent camp challenges; succession planning, burnout; structures of camp leadership)- People management (camper participation, contribution, cat herding; hard conversations, feedback, conflict resolution; group dynamics)- Acculturation (new camp members; cultivating consistent core camp membership; 10 Principles in camp context)- Finances (camp dues structures; raising funds)- Project management (systems and tools camps use; how to get it all done; build and strike)...and more!

We'll announce the final program in March.

What to bring

- The Theme Camp Symposium is a gift! (and it is free to attend). We've got your coffee, breakfast, and beverage needs covered. - Bring your fantastic self, a reusable water bottle to reduce waste, a notebook and pen, default world money for lunch and drinks at the social hour.
