Skrillex, Diplo, The Chemical Brothers Nominated for 2016 Grammy Awards

Although the 2016 Grammys won’t air until February 15, 2016 and a host has yet to be announced, today the complete list of nominations has been revealed. The Chemical Brothers and Jack Ü, the DJ duo and collaborative project consisting of Mad Decent founder Diplo and OWSLA label founder Skrillex, have each been nominated twice this year.

Leading all nominees is rapper Kendrick Lamar with an impressive 11 nominations, followed by R&B act The Weekend and pop queen Taylor Swift, who each received seven nominations. Acclaimed rock act Florence + the Machine got five nominations thanks to their new album, How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Rock Song, Best Rock Performance, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Recording Packaging.

Other noteworthy nominees include singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, who received three nominations for his hit single, “Thinking Out Loud.” Fellow singer-songwriter and newcomer James Bay obtained three nominations for Best New Artist, Best Rock Album, and Best Rock Song. In the two categories, Best Engineered Album, Classical and Best Classical Compendium, George Manahan and the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra were nominated for their record, Ask Your Mama.

The always interesting category of Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical includes Bay Area producer Kaskade for his re-work of Galantis’ “Runaway (U & I)”, RAC’s remix of Odesza’s “Say My Name” and tech house act Dave Audé’s reinterpretation of “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars.

A significant snub this year is Mumford & Sons, who won album of the year in 2013 for Babel, but failed to land a nomination for their new record, Wilder Mind.

Last year, electronic heavyweights Disclosure, Deadmau5 and ZHU were each nominated for Grammys. However, Aphex Twin won Best Dance/Electronic Album for the album Syro and “Rather Be” by Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne won Best Dance Recording.

The Grammys will be held once again at Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be broadcast from 5–8:30pm PST. See below for the complete list of 2016 Grammy nominees. Who do you think will be this year’s biggest winner? Leave your thoughts in the comments section.
