Highlights and Photos from Live 105’s BFD Concert at Shoreline
Foster the People, M.I.A., Fitz and the Tantrums, and Phantogram were highlights in front of a sold-out crowd at the 20th anniversary of Live 105’s BFD at Shoreline Amphitheater.
With 24,000 attendees and four stages of music, the day-long concert featured some of the biggest names in modern rock and up-and-coming bands. A few high points during the concert yesterday:
Kongos – With help from rapper Mozart, this nascent rock band performed an appealing mashup of The Beatles’ “Come Together” with “What’s The Difference” instrumentals from Dr. Dre’s the Chronic 2001. They finished their set with a boisterous extended version of their hit single, “Come With Me Now.”
Phantogram – The sun was still blasting during their late afternoon set while attendees danced along to “Don’t Move” and other tracks from the New York duo’s catalog. After a strong start to their tour cycle for their new album Voices, the buzz is still building for this group.
RAC – RAC’s indie-electro pop remixes were welcomed at the Subsonic tent as they breezed through Two Door Cinema Club’s “Something Good Can Work For” and a glowing re-interpretation of Temper Trap’s “Sweet Disposition.” Their peak was a more energized disco rendition of Lana Del Ray’s “Blue Jeans.”
M.I.A. – M.I.A. borrowed a fan’s iPhone during her song “The Message” to emphasize the link between hyper-connected online lives and government spying. She also had fun pulling tons of girls from the crowd to dance with her on stage in front of a gigantic screen swirling with hypnotic rainbow visuals. However, her best moment was when she dropped hit single “Paper Planes” with an intro mashup vocals from Lorde’s “Royals.”
Fitz and the Tantrums – A high-energy set from the Los Angeles party pop band had lots of people dancing during radio hit “Out of My League.” A lengthy cover of the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams” was another highlight.
Foster the People – Foster the People hit the stage decorated with large color-changing icicle strobe lights, opening with “Miss You,” the same song they started with at Coachella earlier this year. Mark Foster’s vocals fit perfectly in the live setting as he hit the high notes on “Coming of Age” with most of the crowd joining him.
