Obamacare Explained

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare, was passed in 2010. The law’s goals are noble — increase affordability & coverage but reduce overall costs to the people & government. And the most popular parts of Obamacare have already been enacted with little opposition…

    * Children can stay on a parent’s plan until age 26
    * Your insurance company cannot drop you if you get sick
    * You get free preventive care with no co-pay and no deductible, including many cancer screening tests (although some plans already in effect may be exempt from providing this benefit)
    * Lifetime caps on coverage are banned

Understandably, despite the amount of coverage, details of Obamacare remain a mystery and some view the landmark legislation with deep suspicion. Luckily, information is available and KQED recently released a break down of what Obamacare really does and its affects on Californians. Find your group and read up to better understand if & how you will be affected.
