Mollusk Surf Shop to Debut Poster Show Friday

“Like art, surfing can be beautiful and freeing. And, save dropping in or cutting off, surfing doesn’t have rules,” says Mia Sullivan of Mollusk Surf Shop, a charming space in the Outer Sunset that is owned and run by a group of local artists.

An ethos of creativity pervades every aspect of Mollusk, from the clothing that is designed and silkscreened by the artists who run the shop, to the lovely little gallery space that hosts ongoing exhibitions. Mollusk Poster Show, the next show in the freshly renovated gallery, opens this Friday night and will feature six of Mollusk’s favorite artists and live music by The Farmer Dave Band.

Each artist created a new silkscreen print especially for this show, printed by Nat Swope at Bloom Press in Oakland. The artists included were given free rein for thee content of their prints for the show, however the posters nonetheless feel unified by a bold use of color and line—and an attention to detail and craftsmanship that extends to every facet of Mollusk.

Mollusk Poster Show will feature silkscreen prints by Alex Kopps, Andy Davis, Jeff Canham, Nat Russell, Serena Mitnik-Miller and Tom Adler. The opening reception will be held on Friday, December 7th, from 7pm to 10pm at 4500 Irving Street and the exhibition will run through the end of the year. ~ By Suzanne Stroebe.
