Is this racist? Victoria's Secret Pulls "Geisha" Outfit

A media firestorm is brewing around ladies’ wear company, Victoria’s Secret, for its debut and subsequent pulling of this “Geisha” inspired one-piece on the company’s online store.

The “sexy mesh teddy” as described by Victoria’s Secret, was removed after an uproar, and the company has declined to comment on the controversy.

Says Jessica Wakeman of lifestyle site, The Frisky: “This isn’t just a pretty Asian-inspired pattern. It’s an entire outfit — a sex costume, really — based on the accoutrements of the Japanese geisha to make your lingerie ‘exotic’ and signify the sexual submission and exploitation of Asian women.”
