Lafitte Closes Its Doors

Some sad news to pass on that came in late Tuesday: Lafitte and sometimes controversial chef Russell Jackson are no more.

Eater SF got the scoop that the restaurant served its last meal on Sunday night. Jackson, who is always one to speak his mind, told Eater that “the closure was largely financial and that he has a buyer.”

Jackson has perhaps been the most vocal critic of the ban on foie gras coming later this year, hosting FU Foie Gras dinners at his restaurant on the Embarcadero. He also had a major tiff with the San Francisco Chronicle’s Michael Bauer after he gave them a less than stellar review.

Never once to mince words, Jackson always spoke his mind whenever I got a chance to talk to him, refreshing for anyone in the news media.

What’s next for him? He tells Eater he is “going to have fun again” with a relaunch of his popular SubCulture Dining series later this year.
