Clowes, who made his name with his comic book series Eightball, has been lauded for elevating the graphic novel and molding it into a literary art form.

A film adaptation of Clowes’s serialized graphic novel Ghost World, directed by Terry Zwigoff, was released to critical acclaim in 2001 and earned Clowes an Academy Award nomination for the screenplay.

At the showcase, Modern Cartoonist: The Art of Daniel Clowes, original artifacts and sketches that predate or have influenced Clowes will also be on display.

The exhibition will open April 14, 2012 and continue until August 12, 2012 at the Oakland Museum of California.
