The Saga Continues: Odd Future vs. Wu-Tang with "Oldie"

Odd Future, the polarizing crew of hip-hop misfits known for starting shit and annoying critics, artists, authorities, etc., are back with a new release today OF Tape Vol. 2, what’s being called the group’s most cohesive work to date. Not a far reach considering that until recently Earl was MIA in boarding school and R&B crooner Frank Ocean is working mostly solo (or with Kanye and Jay Z).

Often compared to Wu-Tang, the video for “Oldie,” featuring the crew clowning on the set of photo shoot to the closing track on OF Tape Vol. 2, is one of the most solid arguments for comparison to date. Standing at more than 10 minutes long, it’s like a jazzier, less apocalyptic refresher on Wu’s 1997 first single fromWu-Tang Forever “Triumph.”

What do you think? Does OF hold up against the hip-hop vets?

Odd Future perform at The Warfield on April 9.
