Concert Planned as Tribute to Warren Hellman

San Francisco park officials are planning a concert to celebrate the life of philanthropist Warren Hellman, who passed away last month.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the event has been okayed by the city Recreation and Park Commission, with the plan for a one-day musical tribute to be held on February 19 in Golden Gate Park.

The free concert will be put on in partnership with Big Billy Productions – Hellman’s production partner in putting on the annual Strictly Hardly Bluegrass festival, which Hellman underwrote each year.

The Chronicle reports that many of the performers who played at previous Hardly Strictly Bluegrass events are likely to perform. It is still, unknown where the two-stage event will be held but the most likely destinations are at Hellman Hollow or the parking lots at Ocean Beach.

Organizers tell the paper they will try to limit the crowd to about 8,000 and also hope to live-stream the concert online for those who can’t attend.
