Rappelling off the…Hyatt?

If you see people rappelling off the Grand Hyatt hotel in downtown this Friday and Saturday, you won’t be imagining things. And it’s not some elaborate stunt either. Created as an event to benefit the Special Olympics Northern California, the public is being invited to rappel 425 feet (that’s 36 floors) from the hotel’s rooftop.

Of course, you’d have to be the adventurous sort. And someone that can raise at least $1000 – solicited from friends, family, etc. through the Over the Edge online giving site. Organizers expect 100 participants this year; last year $100,000 was raised.

Details:

Friday, July 22 from 1pm – 4pm

Saturday, July 23 from 9am – 4pm

There is no age limit to participate but rapellers must weigh between 110 and 300 pounds.
