Celebrating Oakland’s burgeoning mobile food vending scene, Bites on Broadway kicks off Friday night on 45th and Broadway in front of Oakland Technical High School.

The event is the brainchild of long time East Bay event organizer Karen Hester. She wants to not only highlight street food, but also revitalize Broadway as a major Oakland boulevard.

El TacoBike, Fist of Flour, Go Streatery and Sue’s Sassy Pies will be the first vendors at tonight’s inaugural event. Hester said she hopes to have a larger group of rotating vendors as the weekly event moves forward.

Food will not be the only component as there will also be lawn games and music.  The event runs from 5:30-8:30 every Friday.
