Gilt Taste: Your Not-So-Guilty Source for Gourmet Foods
When I first heard about Gilt Groupe, the online discount site for high-end fashion, I signed right up for their newsletters. Three years later, and I haven’t ordered a thing but I still marvel at the glamorous couture featured on the site. On May 18th, Gilt debuted the newest addition to their family: Gilt Taste.
Currently in Beta, Gilt Taste features the crème de la crème of the food world: chocolate creations from John & Kira’s, artisanal cheeses from Murray’s Cheese Shop, premium steaks from Flannery Beef, and more. The products are selected by professional gourmet food buyers.
The prices are, of course, just as fancy as the food. Currently, the marketplace carries California Caviar at $148 for 2oz., La Tartufata white truffle cream at $62 for 7.05oz. and Lady M Gateua Nuage cake at $70. Gilt Taste plans to offer weekly specials in the coming months.
My favorite items on the site fall under the “equipment” category: adorable, compostable picnic sets from Boxsal. Each $25 box comes with a picnic set for four including trays, bowls, utensils, cups, napkins and a trash bag. The “Today’s Date” box design is color-by-number to add extra fun to your outdoor lunch.
Gilt Taste also includes a “stories” section with essays and recipes from Ruth Reichl, Amanda Cohen, Melissa Clark and others. The aim is not only to introduce gourmet food connoisseurs to prime ingredients, but also to teach about them and show what can be done with dried morels and white asparagus.
You don’t need an account to access Gilt Taste, but you’ll need to sign up to place an order and receive messages.
Now go start saving up for that truffle oil.
