If you're thinking that 1349 is a weird name for a metal band - or any band - you'd be correct...until you found out that metal band was from the dark depths of Norway and that the year 1349was when the black death reached that land. Ah, the echoes of history can be heard loud and clear from these Oslo metallers. In fact, 1349 formed from the ruins of defunct metal band before hitting its stride in 1997 - since that time they've released several albums and toured relentlessly.1349 have covered Mayhem (a legendary Norwegian metal heavyweight), share a drummer with fellow Norse band Satyricon, and exude the spirit of True Norwegian Black Metal. They look the part, too, with long flowing hair perfect for whipping around, and corpse paint to accent their hellish appeal. Lots of touring have made the band play together with ease, putting together sets spanning the years with plenty of fan favorites sprinkled in; you can tell they've been at this metal thing for a long time. Ferocious high-speed guitar, blast beats, and frenzied energy are all the perfect musical background to tales of apocalyptic woe and brutality. Ethereal lighting and drifting fog set the stage for a truly dark experience. Oh and sometimes they start the show off with a little fire breathing, so step back a few rows if you're afraid of a little fire.
