With the Giants fighting for a shot at the playoffs and football season just getting under way, competition is in the air - and not just on field. Local comedians face off this week during the 35th Annual San Francisco Stand-Up Comedy Competition. Meanwhile, raconteurs will compete at Ten Fingers for bragging rights, a cash prize, and the opportunity to guest on a new NPR storytelling show. The J Pop Summit celebrates Japanese pop culture with a variety of events, including several fashion shows and contests, and the folks at Killing My Lobster hope to win over at least a few laughs with Holds the Mayo, a new sketch comedy show inspired by food. Put your knowledge of San Francisco to the test with the SF Secrets Tour and flaunt your facial hair at Loveboat II featuring Mustache Harbor. Or join thousands as they make their journey North to Mendocino for the annual Earthdance Global Dance Festival for Peace.

Question of the Week: When does Suckers vocalist Quinn Walker plan to quit smoking? Find the answer in this week's guide and be the first to email it to [email protected] for a chance to win tickets to JJ Grey & Mofro at the Fillmore!
