San Francisco’s Best Parties This Weekend

We’re in the thick of San Francisco’s warm season, which means parties are poppin’, drinks end with fruit chunks and hangovers can be healed on a soft, grassy knoll. In addition to the the San Francisco’s many outdoor adventures this weekend, dance floors are ripe with opportunities to let loose.

Friday, September 19: Grime City w/ L-VIS 1990 & Ghosts on Tape at 1192 Folsom
UK/NYC producer James Connolly (a.k.a. L-VIS 1990) got his start on Diplo’s Mad Decent label, but has since matured that rampant energy into the metal chomping world of grime and bass for Night Slugs, his co-founded imprint with Bok Bok. San Francisco’s Ryan Merry (a.k.a. Ghosts On Tape) joins the bill. His handful of releases swim outside of classification with an off-kilter blend of swooning groove and skirmishing pads and percussion.

Saturday, September 20: Public Works 4 Year Anniversary w/ Danny Tenaglia at Public Works
In celebration of four years of existence, Public Works is giving Brooklyn tech house legend Danny Tenaglia five hours to showcase dance music history. In perspective, that’s no time compared to the DJ’s career, which started at neighborhood roller discos and now wins the world. He’s danced at Paradise Garage in the 70s, ruled NYC residencies in the 90s and continues to bring transient, near tribal percussion that epitomizes the idea of “bass throb.”

Sunday, September 21: Deviants Adult Arcade w/ Paul Parker (Live), DJs Pareja, The Black Madonna, Honey Soundsystem at Mezzanine
As Folsom Street Fair’s Official Closing Party, Deviants puts some Popeye power behind four-on-the-floor, ranging from 80s Hi-NRG singer, Paul Parker, to burly tech rhythms from Argentina’s DJs Pareja. Most notably here, Smart Bar Chicago’s creative director, The Black Madonna, has a reputation for whipping together ultra giddy disco to cage locking techno in her increasingly international, all vinyl sets.

Sunday, September 21: Werd presents 7 Year Anniversary w/ Midland at Monarch
UK producer Harry Agius (a.k.a. Midland) is known for bass-driven house music that’s made high profile, international parties a regular gig. As a producer, many of his heavy and dark releases can be found on the ever-solid AUS Music, though as a selector, Agius stands out for balancing a deep house groove with intelligence and rougher, body tumbling tech to bass.

Sunday, September 21: As You Like It Golden Gate Park Picnic w/ Jason Kendig, Rich Korach, Bells & Whistles, & Nackt at Elk Glen Meadow (Golden Gate Park)
When has As You Like It ever let us down? In between party after big party, the lights are coming on (but the music’s still blasting) at their free, sunny picnic at Golden Gate Park. All residents will likely provide shades of house, disco, and techno to fit the laid back, outdoor mood.
