A Warm Winter Cocktail or Two

As the weather gets colder and colder, grabbing a warm cocktail seems more and more appropriate with each passing day. Being an intrepid writer and the adventurous type, I am venturing out to try as many of these delicious elixirs as possible. Here’s a look at the first three.

Hot Buttered Rum at Elixir – Elixir has a number of both hot and cold winter cocktails on its menu. Although they all sounded wonderful, I went with my bartender’s suggestion and tried the Hot Buttered Rum. Comforting and warm with just enough booze, it’s a great winter drink to enjoy. Click here for some helpful hints and the recipes for all of Elixir’s winter cocktails.

Elixir is located at 3200 16th Street in San Francisco.

Chamomile Toddy at Brasserie S&P – As we mentioned recently, Priscilla Young is doing great things with the bar at Brasserie S&P in the Mandarin Oriental. One of her creations actually got me started on the idea of warm cocktails – her Chamomile Toddy. I’m a tea drinker and it’s a perfect match for those who love tea. Young loves to match spirits with different spices and her use of star anise in the drink adds a really nice touch.

Brasserie S&P is located inside the Mandarin Oriental Hotel at 22 Sansome Street in San Francisco.

Hot Buttered Pisco at Jasper’s Corner Tap & Kitchen – My last selection is an off-the-menu item I discovered at Jasper’s. The cocktails are always great here and there are plenty of fun and festive winter cocktails on the current menu. But in doing my research, I asked for a warm cocktail and Allison came up with an amazing take on the Hot Buttered Rum with the Hot Buttered Pisco. Pisco actually works really well as a spirit for this drink, which is perfectly balanced. There are tons of other great cocktails to try on the menu as well. Jasper’s is located at 401 Taylor Street in San Francisco.

There you have it. Hopefully, we’ll be adding a few more warm cocktails to the list early next week.
