Plate by Plate Offers Unique Variety at Gala

Food galas are a dime a dozen in the city, though most will cost you more than mere pocket change. However, Project by Project, a nonprofit with the mission of helping raise awareness, volunteerism and capital for Asian American nonprofits, offers a fresh take on fundraiser galas.

Celebrating its 15th anniversary as a national organization, Project by Project’s San Francisco chapter hosted the third Annual Tasting Benefit, “Plate by Plate,” on September 22nd. What made this event particular unique was the variety of participants. Featuring over 40 food and beverage purveyors, supporters had the chance to sample a range of dishes from an assortment of restaurants, both large and small.

Michelin Star-rated Alexander’s Steakhouse served right alongside newcomers HDR Coffee Shop’s killer Korean barbecue, while city staples such as Twenty Five Lusk brought truffled quiche and Yank Sing added their own sesame balls and dumplings. A catering company, Foxtail, dolled out pressed melon lollipops. Chocolate truffles from Socola, macarons and cakes from La Boulange and decadent mousse from Galaxy Desserts were a sweet way to end the evening.

As for beverages, The Bubble Lounge joined forces with Chambord Vodka for a signature Kir Royal cocktail, while dozens of vineyards including Peju, Threshold, and Grgich Hills poured red and white wines.

Additionally, a silent auction was held to help raise funds for the cause, and offered items for every interest: signed jerseys, gift certificates, and “experience” packages to enjoy around town.
