Bike Lovers to Gather at Golden Gate Park This Weekend

Bikes, costumes, beer and music – it’s all part of the New Belgium Brewing Tour de Fat event this Saturday at Lindley Meadow in Golden Gate Park.

In its 12th year, the traveling celebration includes a parade, bike ride and plenty of entertainment to boot.

One of the highlights of Tour de Fat is the annual car-for-bike swap and San Francisco is still looking for a representative to accept the challenge! At each stop in its tour across the country, one person hands over his or her car keys and commits to a year of living car-free. Each swapper will receive a hand-built Black Sheep commuter bike in return for their car.

Volunteers are chosen after submitting an application describing their desire to live car-free on Tour de Fat’s Facebook page.

Tour de Fat is free for participants. Beer and merchandise sales will go to the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition and Bay Area Ridge Trail Council. Last year, the event raised more than $38,000.

Tour de Fat will be held this Saturday, September 24 from 10-5 at Lindley Meadow in Golden Gate Park.
