SF’s Cocktail Week Shakes Things Up

Almighty mixology is front and center this week as San Francisco gears up for its 5th annual Cocktail Week celebration. Beginning today and lasting until Sunday, a trove of the city’s best bars and restaurants will host special events showcasing the most innovative and inviting elixirs known to man.

The festivities kickoff tonight with a Union Square Bar Crawl, hosted by Napa’s own Charbay Distillery. The three hour tour—we all know how those turn out—passes through some of the hippest lounges in the city including Rye (688 Geary), Cantina (580 Sutter), Clock Bar (335 Powell), Otis Lounge (25 Maiden Lane) and Rickhouse (246 Kearny).

On the docket for Tuesday is a Gin Experience hosted by Jasper’s Corner Tap & Kitchen (401 Taylor Street), one of the city’s hottest new eateries. Educate yourself on this lovable libation as Distillery No. 209 drops some serious Juniper knowledge with a mixture of custom and classic Gin cocktails. Renowned in-house chef Adam Carpenter will provide a special assortment of high-minded hors d’oeuvres to accompany the tasting.

On Wednesday, you can drink for a good cause. Dedicated to the geekier, more scientific side of cocktails—known formally as Molecular Mixology—Big Daddy’s Antiques is hosting Shaker & Flask. This unique gathering will feature a slew of state-of-the-art drinks, including some made with pressure-infused botanical vodkas and others that are even prepared using liquid nitrogen—such as herb-infused raw egg white fizzes and frozen cocktail popsicles. It’s only fitting that on a night devoted to distilled discovery, a portion of all proceeds will be donated locally to the Exploratorium.

Note: Cocktail Week events require tickets for entry and many of the popular parties sell-out fast, so make sure you check times and availabilities asap. For a full listing, click here.
